Solo Show of Zeit Sequentia at Backhaus Projects, Berlin (Jan 2025)

The curatorial approach to Zeit Sequentia was an orchestration of absence and presence, fragmentation and continuity—echoing the very essence of time itself. I exclusively designed the layout, ensuring every detail reflected the project’s core themes. The 143 small collages formed a dense, uninterrupted field on a single wall, their arrangement spilling onto the ceiling, as if time could not be contained within a single plane. This overwhelming accumulation of moments invited the viewer to perceive time not as linear, but as layered, cyclical, and shifting.

Yet within this field, absence became just as potent as presence. Thirteen collages were removed from the sequence and framed separately on another wall, leaving behind a void—a ghostly imprint of what once was. Twelve of these were arranged together, reinforcing their connection to the whole, while Chronos stood apart, singular and autonomous, embodying time as both a collective and deeply personal experience.

The large collage, standing alone on the opposite wall, acted as a gravitational force—a singular monument to transformation and the passage of time. Its scale and isolation contrasted with the intricate multiplicity of the smaller works, creating a rhythm of expansion and contraction, dispersion and cohesion.

But the curation extended beyond the physical arrangement. I was present in the exhibition space every day, from opening to closing, becoming both a guide and an object of time itself—a living, breathing element with which visitors could interact. This continuous presence was deliberate, fostering a space for dialogue and connection. Through conversations, I sought to uncover new ideas, inviting viewers to share their own perceptions of time, memory, and place. These interactions became a vital thread, weaving the personal and the universal into the fabric of the exhibition.

In this way, Zeit Sequentia was not merely displayed—it unfolded. It became a dialogue, a shared journey through the layers of time, where every visitor, every conversation, and every moment of connection added a new fragment to the ever-evolving collage of existence.
